Kabalou's, at 23 to 25 Loughborough Road, is definitely somewhere
very different to go, successful presenting the distinctive flavours of
Chinese and Indian cuisine in two exclusive menus, together with an
amazing, decorative blend of English, Egyptian and Asian cultures,
designed to appeal to all.

The impressive pillared exterior and grand entrance foyer echoes
the pioneering spirit of exploration and adventure, with its Indian
memorabilia and early black and white photographs of the Egyptian
pyramids, while the interior of the restaurant is designed to enhance
an eating experience second-to-none,

To gain a grasp of the cuisine is difficult without tasting. But imagine
a dish of succulent chicken prepared and cooked in Chinese style
and served, Indian style, with a Massala sauce and you are some-
where along the way to understanding the concept.

Proprietor Mr Kabalous, who has conducted worldwide research into
his project, says the Indo-Chinese style of cuisine is currently highly
fashionable with in elite circles in India and Pakistan and is now
set to really take off here.

Kabalou's is the first restaurant of its kind in the country on this
scale and has been meticulously designed to add an extra
touch of quality to what Asian cuisine offers the locality.

The idea, says Mr Kabalou's, is to provide a very special
occasion on every visit and for the dinner to enjoy a
particularly memorable meal, not just for the high standards
of the food, but for the ambience of the restaurant itself.

The building itself, of late Victorian design, was formerly a
rundown and almost derelict hotel. Mr Kabalou's and his team
of professionals have carried out a complete transformation
of the property in a renovation and refurbishment project
costing around £1.8m at today's values.

Exclusivity is key throughout. Wedgewood blue and terracotta
pink toned walls highlight stone archways, wittily placed suits
of armour, Tudor and traditional rustic ceilings and magnificent

crystal chandeliers in this baronial style hall, punctuated with intricately carved wooden screens, Indian elephant prints and rich
tapestries, creating something that is once Gothic, colonial and oriental.

Hand Carved Luxury

All furniture and fittings have been hand carved and are of the highest quality, together with the brass lamp and light fittings,
hand crafted by blacksmiths, adding a feeling of comfort and luxury to the whole of the restaurant area, which seats more than 100
diners at any one time.
A separate banqueting area, elegantly draped, marquee-style, from floor to ceilings caters for conferences and parties of up to 80
guests. There is also a separate full stage and lighting rig for discos and dancing, and it is hoped that Kabalou's will be able to
gain a civil license for weddings.
Diners have the benefit of two excellent chefs at Kabalou's, one of whom has been voted a 1999 Chef of the Year and was
head hunted from an award- winning Indian restaurant in Birmingham. The Indo-Chinese chef - a specialist in his art - has been
brought over from Asia where he was personal chef to one of the country's top celebrities. They can be seen at work with their hand
picked team of staff in the open kitchen area where there is a special clay oven for the preparation of nan and tandoori style dishes

Kabalou's also provides good hotel accommodation, with 22 en-suite
rooms offering single, double and family accommodation with
similarly high quality furnishings and facilities, where guests may wish
to stay after a special celebration of business meal at the restaurant.

The restaurant and hotel also has its own adjacent car park with ample
space for parking, with a valet and parking service available on request.

Guests are greeted for their meal by the Maitre d' and taken into the
Egyptian-style bar area, where they may relax and have a drink, select
the dishes of their choice and even enjoy a cigar from their own personal
box held behind the bar
Once inside the restaurant they are invited to make the most of the
special experience that is absolutely Kabalou's
